First, she posted a picture sitting on a couch in her bathroom, hunched over her laptop. Next, a good many of her over one-million followers posted questions of why that particular piece of furniture was set in that room. Then the 57-year old Demi Moore went on Seth Myers to explain as well as discuss the launch of her “Dirty Diana” fictional naughty podcast.
Yes, Bruce Willis’ s-ex had quite the busy week.
Moore has created the six-episode 30-minute episode show (posting every Monday until 8/17) with producer/writer/director Shana Feste. Best known for the films “The Greatest,” “Country Strong,” and “Endless Love,” Feste has created a top-notch product here with expertly recorded dialogue, sound effects, and atmospheric music. Actors like Betsy Brandt, Carmen Ejogo, Lena Dunham, and Melanie Griffith, also appear in the series.
“Diana” is undergoing undercutting of her skills from the men at her work, a sexless marriage, and therapy. Still, she finds a seeming relief recording the fantasies of women as a secret side project. This is not particularly unique stuff, as far as it does, but in all fairness, I was only able to listen to the premiere episode. And although Moore has Hollywood cred and still has that super sexy sandpapery voice, there’s not a lot of there with what’s coming across on the show, and she proves that not every solid movie actor is a voice actor.
As Chris and I opine time and again, what’s sexy to one person is not always sexy to another. I think what Moore and Feste are trying to do is what I see all too often with erotica, swinging the pendulum wide, trying to make things as sexy as possible for as many people as possible, they don’t make much sexy at all. The stuff that works with trying to tickle our imaginations is to tickle the specificity of story and character. This is what makes things really interesting, even if they don’t exactly hit everyone’s fantasies.
Then again, Moore is only beginning this project, maybe Diana will get very dirty indeed. Only time will tell. Find the “Dirty Diana” podcast here.
