As part of “Masturbation May”, the management team of Swiss sex toy shop Amorana (part of Lovehoney Group) is introducing the «Amorana Masturbation Day» company-wide on May 12th, 2023. This day will be considered an additional day off for Amorana employees to focus on self-love and mental health.
“As a progressive employer we are aware that in today’s complex world, the topics of work-life balance and mental health must have a high priority, especially in the workplace,” explained Amorana Head of Marketing, Isabelle Schmid. Amorana is actively committed to this mission. With the additional day off work to celebrate Masturbation May, Amorana is setting an example to raise awareness that prioritizing mental and physical well-being must also be addressed in the professional work environment. “Self-love and self-care come in different forms, and masturbation is just one of them. Of course, it is up to each and every employee to decide which kind of self-love to choose,” she continued.
Management team volunteers are packing orders in the warehouse and the extra day off will not affect the shopping experience of the customers. Volunteers from the management team are in the Amorana warehouse themselves today, to ensure that all orders are packed and shipped as planned.
Masturbation May is a key awareness month in the sexual wellness industry and evolved from Masturbation Day. The aim of Masturbation May is to debunk the myths surrounding solo sex and to raise awareness of the mental and health benefits. In doing so, it aims to break the taboo around masturbation and combat the shame associated with it. The first International Masturbation Day was held on May 7th, 1995 to honor the then United States Surgeon General, who was fired by then US President Bill Clinton in 1994 after she suggested that masturbation should be part of sex education in schools. Gradually, International Masturbation Day was globalized and extended to the whole month, after which the entire month of May became Masturbation May.
